Strawberry Matcha Lattes - toot or boot?

I love recreating a viral recipe! Being a matcha-lover, I knew I had to give this a whirl.

And I am telling you now, the viral strawberry matcha makes for a really good mid-arvo pick-me-UP!

Matcha contains a very high amount of antioxidants (polyphenols), more than most fruits and veggies. These antioxidants are very beneficial for your gut health and microbiome. But bear in mind, it also contains some caffeine. But compared to your average latte, containing approx 173mg caffeine, a serving of matcha is approx 70mg. However, because matcha contains the amino acid L-Theanine, it has shown to improve sleep and enhances feelings of calm.

Matcha is made from the same leaves as green and black teas except matcha involves the grinding of the whole green tea leaves into a fine powder. By doing so, it retains more nutrients and more flavour. Like coffee, matcha is a bitter flavour - and what we know to be true is our LIVER loves bitter. We all can always do with more liver support - so matcha is a big win here!! There was a study on mice which suggested matcha intake alleviates non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and improved kidney function, by regulating lipid metabolism and inflammatory responses. There have been some studies on humans with a meta-analysis concluding it is dependent on the health status of the individual on how potent the benefits of green tea extracts are, but they can indeed improve liver health by reducing liver enzymes.

So in summary: matcha is an excellent choice to support your health, and by supporting liver function, you are improving your body's ability to recycle and eliminate oestrogens. Oestrogen production occurs in the ovary. But, we must also consider the organ responsible for metabolising or breaking down oestrogen, an equally important process for hormone regulation - and that is the liver. This is very important on your conception and fertility journey.
